Rand Water will conduct extensive maintenance between June and July that will affect several Johannesburg areas. The plan is that the maintenance will take place between 22 June and 29 July. This will subsequently lead to days-long water disruptions hitting parts of Gauteng on a set schedule.

WHY IS THIS NECESSARY?

Rand Water said that the planned maintenance is a proactive activity necessary to preserve the integrity of its infrastructure. It will also reduce maintenance costs in the long term and increase the life span of the infrastructure and its components. However, the maintenance will lead to water disruptions.

“A maintained water infrastructure ensures uninterrupted water supply for the current and future generation.”

It advised residents to store water ahead of the maintenance that will impact their area.

WATER DISRUPTIONS: WHICH AREAS WILL BE AFFECTED?

The maintenance work will affect Johannesburg Water’s systems supplied by the Palmiet and Eikenhof pump stations, as well as the Daleside booster station.

Palmiet will be affected on 1 July, when it will pump at 60% for eight hours, on 15 July pumping will be reduced to 68% for 50 hours, and on 29 July pumping will be reduced to 76% for 40 hours. Palmiet feeds all the Sandton and Midrand systems, the South Hills Tower and the Alexandra Park, Randjieslaagte and Linksfield reservoirs.

Here are further particulars of the involved areas and systems as per the current plan:
