On Saturday night Pretoria-born Oti Mabuse made her debut on the BBC’s popular series Strictly Come Dancing. The British broadcaster introduced Oti to UK audiences as “a very hot 25-year-old from South Africa”. UPDATE: Oti Mabuse has WON the UK’s Strictly Come Dancing 2019!
Oti has joined the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) as a professional dancer for their 13th series of ‘Strictly’.
She has been partnered with boxer Anthony Ogogo.
According to the BBC, Oti is “thrilled to be joining the Strictly family”. She has previously competed in the German version of the same show and says “to finally see my dreams unfold before my eyes is such an unbelievable feeling.”
Now that her dancing dreams are coming true, it’s hard to believe that the she almost became an engineer…and actually studied Civil Engineering at university. But ballroom was always her true passion.
Oti and her sister began dancing as young children. Her sister – who has also become a professional dancer – is a judge of the German version of ‘Strictly’.
South Africans may remember Oti as the eight time winner of the South African Latin American Champion title.
After achieving those accolades Oti moved to Germany to pursue new challenges. She has since collected a few more titles including World European Latin Semi-Finalist, World Cup Championship Semi-Finalist and winner in the German Championship PD Freestyle Latin.
Yesterday Oti uploaded photos of herself in a Catwoman-themed dance and wrote “Mama I’m flying.”
And that she is!
